  • Routine maintenance of Volkswagen Polo
    July 24, 2025

A 2018 Volkswagen Polo was rescued and brought into the store because the battery was out of battery and needed to be replaced after testing. At the same time, the engine was also due for maintenance. After replacing the battery, the mechanic performs engine maintenance and inspects the entire vehicle. The car owner usually doesn't drive it much, and has only driven over 50000 kilometers in 7 years, as shown in the dashboard below. Due to battery power failure, the time displayed on the instrument panel is also incorrect and needs to be adjusted. Open the engine hood, the engine model DLX belongs to the EA211 series, which is very sturdy and durable, with a low failure rate. The matching gearbox also has a low failure rate. As shown in the figure below, the air filter assembly is installed on the upper part of the engine. By removing the upper shell of the filter, you can see the filter and the status of the throttle valve. This type of throttle valve installation position is very convenient for cleaning. The condition of the throttle valve mainly depends on the oil sludge on the edge of the middle flap, as shown in the figure below. The edges of the flap are all black oil sludge, which can affect the intake volume of the engine at idle speed and cause problems such as unstable idle speed and stuck throttle. Cleaning it thoroughly can solve the problem. Lift up the car, remove the engine lower guard, drain the old oil, and replace the oil filter. As shown in the figure below, the oil filter has been installed, and we can see that there are no signs of oil or water leakage at the bottom of the engine and transmission, and the condition is very good. The front part is a MacPherson independent suspension, and the lower arm is a larger single-layer stamped steel plate. The ball joint of the lower arm can be disassembled separately. There is only one rusted component as shown in the following picture, which is the rear guard of the brake disc. It should have been a layer of paint to prevent rust, but it has already fallen off. However, the mechanic said that these rusts don't affect anything and can't be seen normally, so there's no need to worry. Check the components of the front suspension. The rubber protective cover of the steering rod ball joint has some cracks, but the internal ball joint is still normal and can continue to be used normally. Looking at the middle part of the chassis, there are insulation tiles on the upper part of the exhaust pipe and protective plates on both sides, which is quite comprehensive. The rear suspension is a torsion beam non independent type, and the front of the rear torsion beam is a 45 liter plastic fuel tank. The rear suspension components are all normal after inspection. After inspecting the entire chassis, add engine oil and clean the air filter and air conditioning filter. Finally, clean the engine compartment with high-pressure water and complete the maintenance. Overall, the condition of this Volkswagen Pol...

  • What is the chassis condition of the 2012 BMW 5 Series?
    July 24, 2025

A BMW 5 Series entered the store, and the owner claimed that the engine compartment noise was too loud. After inspection, the mechanic found that the reason was that there was too much dust on the water tank and condenser, which caused problems with their heat dissipation. The solution was to clean them. We won't show the cleaning process anymore, let's mainly take a look at the chassis condition of this car when it has driven over 100000 kilometers. Looking at the engine compartment shown in the picture, the engine is N52 model with a 2.5-liter displacement. Looking between the front wheel and the fender, you can see the upper control arm of the suspension, which is made of aluminum alloy material. Raise the car and look at the lower part. The lower part is a lower control arm composed of two support arms, both made of aluminum alloy material. The steering knuckle is also made of aluminum alloy material and connects the upper and lower control arms. Due to being a rear wheel drive model, there is no need for a Half shaft at the front. Looking at the middle part of the chassis, all the necessary protective plates are present, and there is also a reinforcing rod connecting the left and right sides of the vehicle. The rear suspension is a multi link independent suspension made of aluminum alloy material, and a differential is installed on the rear subframe. The rear suspension material is quite awesome. As shown in the figure below, it is basically made of aluminum alloy, which is very different from the rear suspension material of the current BMW 5 Series. After inspection, the suspension components are in good condition. The above is the chassis condition of this BMW 5 Series, which is made of very solid materials and extensively uses aluminum alloy components. Finally, the mechanic reminds that regardless of the type of car, summer has arrived and the temperature has risen. It is necessary to check the condition of the water tank and condenser. If they are too dirty, they must be cleaned in a timely manner. It is recommended to clean them every two years to avoid excessive engine temperature. If the water temperature is too high, it will increase the pressure on the cooling water circuit, accelerate the aging of rubber components, and also lead to poor cooling effect of the air conditioner and increased fan noise.

  • Due to poor driving habits, the car window glass cannot be raised or lowered normally
    September 26, 2025

A Volkswagen Santana entered the store, and the owner reported that the window glass could not be raised and lowered normally. It is unclear whether it is a problem with the lifter switch or the lifter. When the driver received the car, the glass in the driver's seat was below, and pressing the lifter did not respond at all, nor could it control the lifting of the window glass in the passenger's seat. The following picture shows the state of the car when it first entered the store. The window glass of the driver's seat is inside the car door and can no longer be seen. Opening the door panel reveals the interior of the car door. At this point, the window regulator motor has been removed and tested to be normal. The regulator switch is still on the door panel. The low-end model only has two front door switches, and the two buttons below the switch are for locking and unlocking the car. The master connected the switch separately, and during testing, it was found that pressing the switch did not result in no response. Occasionally, the car window glass would move, possibly due to a problem with the contact inside the switch. So, the master opened the switch of the elevator and found that the circuit board inside was corroded. Corrosion only occurs when water enters The master tried sanding the corroded circuit board with sandpaper to see if it could still be used. Please note that the yellow contacts on the circuit board should be made of metallic copper, and this circular copper block is not connected in the middle, which is equivalent to two semicircles. The master tried to touch the copper circle with a screwdriver, which was equivalent to connecting the circuit. However, only the window lift of the passenger seat window worked, and the driver's seat did not. This indicates that there is a problem with the circuit board, possibly due to damage to some components. After such a simple inspection, we have determined that it is the problem with the elevator switch, and replacing the switch can solve the problem. Finally, the master said that the damage to this glass lifter was due to the car owner's carelessness when using the car (the owner stated that the door panel had been exposed to rain multiple times), and water entered the circuit board inside the lifter, causing corrosion and damage to the circuit board. After understanding the reason, the car owner stated that they will make changes in the future and try not to let the door panels get wet. In daily use, we should try to avoid water entering the inside of the door panel to reduce the probability of window failure.

  • 100000 kilometers in 10 years, how is the condition of a second-hand Volkswagen car?
    September 29, 2025

In the morning, a Volkswagen Jetta arrived at the store. It was a 2015 1.6-liter manual version, produced in May 2015 and has been in use for 10 years. The owner said that this is a second-hand car he just bought and hasn't driven much yet, but there is always a strange noise and some deviation when driving on bumpy roads. Check if it needs to be positioned and see what the condition of the car is like. For the problem described by the car owner, the mechanic first conducted a road test. The problem does exist, and the chassis is still relatively loose, which will definitely affect the chassis data. The deviation is likely caused by problems with certain components of the chassis. As for the engine and gearbox, there is no problem at all. So the master drove the car onto the lift and conducted a preliminary inspection first. According to the dashboard, the total mileage is 106000 kilometers, but the time display is incorrect. The morning time is displayed as evening. Looking at the front suspension, there is no protective plate under the engine, and the lower support arm is made of single-layer stamped steel plate. There is a problem with the lower support arm rubber sleeve. The rubber sleeve of the steering outer rod ball joint is damaged, as shown in the picture below. Shaking the ball joint by hand may cause looseness. The following picture shows the rubber sleeve of the lower support arm, and the rubber part has been damaged. The main issue with the chassis is concentrated in the front suspension, while the rear is a torsion beam non independent suspension. After inspection, there were no problems with the suspension. There is just a nail stuck in the left rear wheel, which does not leak when pulled out. After inspection, the driver explained to the car owner the cause of the abnormal chassis noise and deviation. It is necessary to replace the two front steering outer rod ball joints and two front lower support arms, and then perform four-wheel alignment. The car owner asked, can this repair solve all the problems? After receiving a positive response from the master, the car owner agreed to the repair in this way. The following picture shows the disassembly of the steering outer rod ball joint. Quickly, the two new lower support arms and the steering pull ball head were installed, as shown in the figure below. Next, the car needs to be driven onto the four-wheel alignment instrument for positioning. As shown in the figure below, the car has been driven to the four-wheel alignment instrument and the equipment has been installed on all four wheels. After four-wheel alignment, the driver conducted a road test and made minor adjustments. The chassis noise has disappeared and the vehicle will not deviate. The problem has been solved and the owner is quite satisfied.

  • If a driver continues to drive over a hundred meters with a completely deflated tire, what will happen inside the tire?
    October 16, 2025

Approaching the end of work, a Honda Accord entered the store. The owner got off the car and said that the right front wheel seemed to be nailed and would slowly leak air. He had just inflated the tire in the garage and wanted to repair the leak. The master pulled the jack and supported the right front wheel. As shown in the picture below, the tire screws have been loosened and the tire has been lifted off the ground. When the master was loosening the tire screws, he found a clear crushing mark on the tire sidewall and asked the owner: Did you drive a certain distance with the tire flat? We can see from the arrow that the side of the tire has already been dented, which is caused by driving when the tire is completely deflated. The car owner said that the car was parked on the roadside yesterday and when they were about to drive, they found that the right front wheel was flat and had no air left. They thought it was not far from the garage and there was no inflation pump at the time, so they drove the car to the garage and parked it, which was only a hundred meters away. They just found an inflation pump to inflate the tire and came over quickly to make up for it. The master said that after the tire is completely flat, do not continue driving (except in emergency situations). The wheel rim will directly crush the side of the tire, which is the weakest part of the tire itself. This makes it very easy to be damaged after crushing. Now let's remove the tire and see what the inside of the tire looks like, and see if it can be repaired. When removing the tire, we found that there were some perforated plastic shells inside the wheel rim that were tightly attached to the wheel rim, as shown in the picture below. After asking the technician, we learned that this is a special configuration of Honda to reduce tire noise, and it is very easy to damage the tire when removing it. After removing the tire from the wheel rim, we can see the condition inside the tire, as shown in the figure below. The inside has started to peel, mainly concentrated on the side and shoulder of the tire. The master said that this is the typical behavior of driving with completely deflated tires. If you continue to drive, there will be a lot of black rubber residue inside the tires; If you continue driving, the tire side will be crushed and separated from the tread, and the wheel rim will directly contact the ground. The consequence is not only to replace the tire, but also to replace the wheel rim, and in severe cases, it may damage the suspension. Seeing the situation inside the tire, the mechanic suggested that the owner replace it with a new tire because the interior of this tire has already been damaged. Even if the nail position is repaired, there may still be air leakage, which is very unsafe. In addition, the tread pattern of this tire is relatively shallow and has been in use for a long time, so it is not a loss to replace it. After considering it, the car owner agreed to re...

  • How is the overall condition of the Cadillac CT5 after driving over 70000 kilometer?
    October 23, 2025

A Cadillac CT5 entered the store, the model is the 2021 facelift 28T luxury model, with a production date of August 2021 and a total mileage of over 70000 kilometers. The purpose of entering the car store is to maintain the engine. Now let's follow the perspective of the mechanic to see how the overall condition of the car is. Opening the engine compartment, you can see the condition inside, which is relatively clean overall, with only a layer of floating dust. The engine adopts a longitudinal layout and rear wheel drive. Engine model LSY, 2.0-liter turbocharged type. Lift up the car and check its chassis condition. There is a plastic protective plate at the bottom of the engine, but it can only protect the front half. There are protective plates on both sides of the middle body. Looking at the front suspension, it is a double ball joint MacPherson independent suspension type. The steering knuckle is made of aluminum alloy material, and the lower arm is composed of two aluminum alloy connecting rods. The ball head is arranged one up and one down, which can maintain verticality and better handling when the wheels bounce on bumpy roads. Due to rear wheel drive, the front wheels do not have a half axle connection. Check the front suspension components, mainly the rubber sleeve and ball joint, there are no issues. The oil pan of the engine is made of plastic material. Although there is no protective plate at the bottom, there is a reinforced crossbeam for protection. The oil pan is hidden between the subframe and crossbeam for better protection and easy oil drainage. The oil filter element is designed next to it for easy replacement. The oil drain screw is also made of plastic material and can be unscrewed by turning it counterclockwise. The oil filter element next to it has been removed. Let's take a look at the rear, with a five link independent suspension type. The differential is installed on the rear subframe, and the drive shaft is arranged above the exhaust pipe. Among the five connecting rods of the rear suspension, there is a plastic protective plate at the bottom of the lower support arm, which can reduce the impact of road stones. The left two connecting rods have a hollow lightweight design. The screws fixing the lower arm and upper connecting rod on the subframe are eccentric screws, which can adjust the front toe and outward tilt of the rear suspension. After inspection, all components of the suspension are in good condition. Overall, the condition of this Cadillac CT5 is very good, which is closely related to the owner's driving conditions and daily maintenance. As the driver said, as long as it is maintained and used normally, there will be basically no problems.
